The testimony of 10 out of the 13 witnesses called by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) in support of their petition contesting the election of President Bola Tinubu has been rejected by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

In a ruling handed down today, September 6, the court ruled that the witnesses, who were subpoenaed at the petitioners’ request, did not file or frontload their written statements, which contained their testimony, with the petition within the allotted 21 days under the Electoral Act 2022.
The papers submitted by the petitioners through the 10 impacted witnesses, including the report of analysis, were also dismissed by the court in the lead judgement being read by Justice Haruna Tsammani.
The court also declared that some of the witnesses are not only parties interested in the case’s outcome but also those whose reports were submitted while the case was still pending.
The court ruled that FCT residents do not enjoy the exceptional privileges that the petitioners claimed, thereby rejecting the Labour Party’s claim that it received 25% of the FCT votes.
