The murderers of artist AKA are being pursued by South African authorities, it was announced on Monday.
At a press conference, Police Minister Bheki Cele stated that in addition to finding the vehicles used in the alleged hit on the hip-hop sensation, police had also “located” the murder weapon and had a list of suspects.
Prior to making any arrests, the police took care to gather solid evidence to support their claims, Cele asserted.
AKA, actual name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was shot multiple times in February outside a bar in Durban in what appeared to be a hit. Additionally, his friend was killed.
“We have found the cars that were used by the suspects on the night of AKA’s shooting,” Cele told journalists at Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg on Monday.
Investigators intended to handle the AKA murder “properly,” according to Cele, who implied that they planned to develop a strong case to avoid the difficulties encountered in other high-profile murder prosecutions.
“The gun and the people [implicated in the shooting] have [also] been located,” Cele added.
In June, South Africa’s police chief Fannie Masemola revealed: “With regard to AKA, we know exactly who we’re looking for. It’s a matter of just rounding them up, that I can assure you.”
Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the police commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, stated in September that while they knew their suspects, there was still some evidence to review.
He claimed that because AKA’s murder took place in a public setting and numerous persons were involved, numerous phone calls were made the night of the shooting.
Hours of video footage, according to Mkhwanazi, need to be evaluated, and more than 25 mobile phones also need to be checked out.
