The recently revealed Grammy Awards nominations list continues the joint global climb of Afrobeats and Nigerian performers in the music business.
Eight Nigerian musicians received nominated for the highly sought-after prize in several categories.
Burna Boy is nominated for four awards: Best Global Music Performance, Best Melodic Rap Performance (for “Sittin’ On Top Of The World”), Best Global Music Performance (for “Alone”), and Best African Music Performance (for “City Boys”).
Davido received nominations for Best Global Music Performance for his song “Feel,” Best African Performance for his worldwide hit song “Unavailable,” and Best Global Album for his return album, “Timeless.”
Olamide and Asake were nominated for their first Grammys in the Best African Music Performance category for their song “Amapiano,” which they co-wrote.
Ayra Starr’s global smash song “Rush” garnered her a nomination for Best African Music Performance, and Fireboy DML’s work on Jon Batiste’s “World Music Radio” won him a consideration for Album of the Year.
For his work on Janelle Monáe’s “The Age of Pleasure,“ which was nominated for Album of the Year, CKay received a Grammy nomination. Tems was nominated because of her involvement in Rihanna’s song “Lift Me Up.”
African performers Trevor Noah, Musa Keys, and Tyla are among those nominated.
