The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has declared his intention to dissolve the Sanitation Ministry if he wins the upcoming December elections and assumes the presidency.

Mahama criticized the performance of the Sanitation Ministry, arguing that it has failed in its duties and has led to the wastage of scarce resources. He expressed dismay at the worsening unsanitary conditions in the country, stating that they have deteriorated since the establishment of the ministry, which he considers ineffective.

Additionally, Mahama disclosed his plans to merge the Transport, Aviation, and Railways ministries into a single ministry. He emphasized the need to streamline government operations and reduce expenditure.

“We will shut down the Ministry of Sanitation to cut costs and because it serves no purpose. The country is dirtier now than before the ministry was established. We will transfer sanitation responsibilities back to Local Government to save money,” Mahama declared.

“In addition to the Sanitation Ministry, we will also merge the Transport, Aviation, and Railways ministries into one. We aim to consolidate ministries to enhance efficiency and reduce administrative overhead,” he added.
