Ghanaian actress, Joselyn Dumas, asserts that budget constraints should not endanger the lives of creatives in the industry, emphasizing that avoidable deaths should not occur under such circumstances.

The tragic incident involving actor Junior Pope, who lost his life in a boat accident on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, highlights this concern. In his final video shared online shortly before the accident, Pope can be seen riding a boat to a movie set without wearing a life jacket. Expressing his fear and concern for his three children, he repeatedly urged the boat rider to slow down, expressing his unwillingness to risk his life.

Tragically, the return journey from the set via the same mode of transportation ended in disaster, with the boat capsizing and claiming the lives of five individuals, including Junior Pope.

In response to this heartbreaking event, Joselyn Dumas, a prominent figure in the Ghanaian film industry, underscores the importance of upholding the basic welfare needs of actors and actresses. She condemns the violation of their rights, emphasizing that such neglect should not be tolerated in the future.

โ€œBeing refused the basic welfare needs on a production/film set in the name of budget constraint is a total violation of the right of a creative! may our lives not end abruptly in pursuit of our daily bread ????????. We must do better RIP #juniorpope May God comfort and strengthen his family. ????????????,โ€ she said in a tweet on X.
