After being sentenced to six months in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for defacing the Naira, celebrity transgender figure Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, will serve his term in the male section of a Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) facility.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court delivered the verdict on Friday, finding Bobrisky guilty of Naira abuse.
During court proceedings, Bobrisky affirmed his male identity, a factor considered in the decision to place him in a male-designated prison facility.
According to a spokesperson for the correctional service in Lagos, adherence to Bobrisky’s courtroom testimony influenced his placement. Despite concerns about potential harm due to his gender preference, correctional officers have assured that measures will be taken to ensure his safety.
Addressing worries about his vulnerability, the spokesperson emphasized that Bobrisky would be protected from sexual assault by other male inmates.
Meanwhile, Bobrisky’s social media activity, including recent suggestive posts on Instagram, continues to attract attention. With over five million followers on Instagram, he has openly shared his gender transition journey, expressing satisfaction with the process and affirming his well-being.
