Sunday Igboho Opposes #EndBadGovernance Protest, Calls for Peaceful Dialogue
Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has expressed his opposition to the planned #EndBadGovernance protest set to commence on August 1. Igboho described the protest as politically motivated and urged the Yoruba people to avoid violence, advocating for peaceful dialogue instead.
Igboho defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, highlighting its bold and revolutionary policies since taking office on May 29, 2023. He claimed these policies have disrupted the plans of those who feel entitled to rule Nigeria, leading to attempts to undermine Tinubu’s government.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Igboho stressed that calls for unconstitutional regime change are unacceptable. He noted that during President Buhari’s tenure, there were no such protests from the Southwest, despite significant challenges.
Igboho warned against using the Southwest as a battleground for political turmoil, stating, “The Yoruba Nation Movement and I firmly declare that we will not participate in any protest aimed at using the Southwest as a battleground for political upheaval.”
He also addressed the economic hardships facing Nigerians, emphasizing that these are global issues not unique to Nigeria. Igboho urged citizens to focus on constructive dialogue and development rather than destructive actions.
The statement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some accusing Igboho of betrayal and others supporting his stance against violence.
Many expressed disappointment, questioning his motives and authenticity as a freedom fighter, while others agreed that protests should remain peaceful and not lead to further instability.
Igboho’s call for restraint and his defense of Tinubu’s policies have ignited a heated debate among Nigerians, reflecting the deep-seated tensions and diverse opinions within the country’s political landscape.
