In a strong commitment to Ghanaians, Alan Kyerematen has vowed to stabilize the economy and bring the exchange rate below 5 cedis to the dollar if elected President.

Speaking during a major victory walk in Greater Accra on November 2, 2024, Kyerematen expressed his concerns over Ghana’s current economic difficulties, promising a comprehensive economic transformation to curb inflation and stabilize the exchange rate. “It’s unacceptable that the exchange rate is nearly $1 = 17 cedis,” he remarked, pledging to implement policies that would restore the purchasing power and confidence of Ghanaians.

In his post-walk speech, Kyerematen identified four key issues—unemployment, corruption, illegal mining, and a struggling economy—as the country’s biggest challenges. He assured the crowd that his Great Transformational Plan (GTP) addresses these root problems with practical solutions, positioning it as a pragmatic blueprint for Ghana’s progress.

Kyerematen further distinguished himself as the only candidate with actionable strategies to address these pressing concerns. His economic approach centers on an agricultural revolution, industrial growth, and tourism promotion, all of which he believes are crucial to job creation and stability. “Through substantial investment in agriculture and local industries, we will create sustainable employment opportunities, especially for the youth,” he explained. His plan emphasizes boosting local production and reducing import dependency to ease pressure on the cedi.

On youth empowerment, Kyerematen addressed the high youth unemployment rate, which often drives young people into illegal mining, known as Galamsey. He pledged to provide legal pathways for youth in small-scale mining. “I will revoke licenses from politicians exploiting the youth and grant them to the young people to establish small-scale mining companies they can own,” he promised. He also mentioned that the government would offer mining equipment on a work-and-pay basis, enabling young entrepreneurs to build their own businesses in the sector.

The former Trade and Industry Minister outlined additional youth-focused policies, stating that his government would support young entrepreneurs with funding, business training, and market access. “With these empowerment policies, it will be rare for any young person to finish school without a job or a self-employment opportunity,” he assured.

Kyerematen also underscored his commitment to political inclusivity, pledging to adopt a national unity approach in his government by appointing the most capable individuals, regardless of political affiliation. “In my administration, whether you are NDC, NPP, or apolitical, if you can do the job, you’ll be part of it,” he declared, stressing that merit would guide appointments.

A key promise to the youth was job accessibility based solely on qualifications, not political connections. “In my government, you won’t need a political party card to get a job. All you’ll need is the Ghana Card,” he affirmed, promising to remove partisan barriers to employment opportunities
